I have finally finished the flower tapestry. Hurrah! Do you ever start a project keenly, lose intestest slightly at some point and put it away for a few months, pick it up again, enjoy it, put it down for another few months, pick it up again, get fed up and can't wait to finish it so power through, then suddenly *FINISHED*?! No? That'll be just me then! This is the love/hate realationship I have with all tapestries. I love sewing them, I really do, but there is always a point where I get fed up with the sight of it! It doesn't help that when I really feel like sewing, it's always when I really don't have the time to do it. They always end up as a cushion (this is my fifth completed one), and I am always delighted with how they turn out. I buy my tapestry kits from [Ehrman]. You get everything you need, canvas, instructions, wool, needle. This one arrived to me on the 30th July last year, and I finished it yesterday. Had I not put it away for so long I could have had it completed in the spring. Still, I'm just glad to have got it done. Next summer, I plan to leave it on one of the sunniest windowsills to try and mute the colours down. The red is a bit too bright for me.Perhaps it's not surprising that I don't have much time for sewing when I show you the kind of thing Gorgeous Girl gets up to. This little collage is of earlier in the week, when she was doing some cooking in the kitchen!
I love to let her make a mess in this way, to me one Big Mess = One Happy Child. Far more important than a spotlessly clean home.If she isn't making 'snow' from flour, then she's busy with felt tips, paint, glue and glitter. I heard a happy little voice pipe up with 'Mummy, my handy's all pink', and this is what I saw....
Eeks! Thank goodness for washable felt tip!
In between all the clearing up, I managed to take a tin of pumpkin, and turned it into a pumpkin pie. Tinned pumpkin isn't the easiest of things to get hold of here in Great Britain. Some supermarkets stock it, but none around here, so I have to buy it online. I use [This Website]. I use the traditional pumpkin pie recipe from [Libby's]. It's very easy to make, and I have to say that pumpkin pie is a real favourite with me.
Yum, yum.
Perhaps I'm not quite the Halloween Scrooge that I think I am. I made some little fairy cakes for the husband to take into work yesterday. I am still working on my decorating techniques, and have to say that I was rather pleased with the little marzipan pumpkins that I created.
I think this pumpkin 'snowman' was my favourite one.
Once again I have to say how brilliant food colouring gel is. Because it's a gel, I was able dab on black colouring for the eyes and mouth with a cocktail stick without it dripping and dribbling.
I bought them from [Lakeland], they are more expensive than liquid food colouring, but my word, they are so worth it. We've even carved our pumpkins already. The one on the left is the one my husband did, mine is on the right, the small one in the centre is for my gorgeous girl, and on her request, the teeny tiny one on the right is for Dudley, our cat!
So with Halloween out of the way, it's back to Christmas. Is it just me, or is the amount of Christmas mags this year extremely disappointing? I've bought two so far, and didn't find them particularly inspiring. There are two foodie ones out, but I've resisted buying them as yet, because festive food is usually pretty much the same each year, and I have tons of festive foodie books. There is still time for more to show up on the shelves, but I'm impatient and want them now! In the meantime I'll make do with two of my favourite mags. It's a cold, drab, drizzly afternoon here today, the perfect weather for a cup of tea or two and a good read.
Stay safe and enjoy your Halloween. :o)
