I've been hunting around recently for a particular montage that I did some time ago. I couldn't find it but I did find a couple, the oldest of which must be around 4 years old (I never get rid of them!).
The centre page is just a page of fashion ideas that I liked, so I kept it. Price isn't a worry when it comes to the fashion/bag/shoe montages. I mean, if you have no chance of getting them anyway, you might as well wish for the moon! This is the particular montage I was looking for. Once I stopped searching it just seemed to turn up, isn't that typical?
When I save pictures from magazines it may be because I like the item, or the way a room has been styled. Sometimes it's just because I like the mood created, the colours, a chair, a style, how they have been used with something else or it might be that I simply like the fabric. It's so good to see all the ideas you like grouped together in this way. Usually you will find that they work well together and you can find similar items or fabrics and be sure you will like them when you get them home. I love it when I find a montage that is a few years old, because I can look at it and find specific things that have inspired me and is apparent in my home. In this one for example, I can see that I've sourced a chair similar to one in the top right hand photo, one of the bedrooms has a very similar bed to the wrought iron one that we have(I added the photo just because it reminded me of ours), I've made lots of Union Jack cushions, and have ideas to make a new and slightly different version. Even things that I've done to my lamp shades I can see stems from ideas that I've saved.
Often ideas embed themselves deep in my mind until I almost forget about them, and I recreate them without realising where they originated. Then I find an old montage and think 'oh, that's where I got that idea from'! Not sure why the cloche covered cakes are there, I probably thought they looked tasty! Or, I wanted to try and find a nice cake stand similar to it.
Yesterday while shopping, I bought my little girl three little ducks for the bath.
Is this inspirational? Well yes, in a way it is. I love these three colours together, and it reminded me to dig out a magazine that showed photos of a house decorated in a way that I really like. From the August/September 2008 Mary Engelbreit Home Magazine (sadly no longer in print).
I just adore the fresh but homely feel created by the colours. This dining room is perfect in my eyes, not only as a dining room but for any room. I would love to be invited to eat here!
I want to take so many elements from this room for around our home. Mainly the overall feel and air it gives. It feels friendly, feminine, fresh and very inviting. So you see, my three little ducks reminded me to look for this magazine.
Inspiration can come from the most unlikely source, so when it strikes it's nice to get it down on paper so you don't forget. If you've never cut out pictures from magazines and grouped them together like this, give it a try. It's a really fun thing to do and it can help you stay focused when you know how you want a room to look, but can't explain in words.
