The mess on the kitchen table ..

My kitchen table is in a state of perpetual mess. In between my little girl drawing, times to eat, using the laptop, list writing, or just having a quiet cuppa, the table in the kitchen always seems to be covered with scraps of paper, thread, or the sewing machine. Sometimes I think it would be so nice to see the table with nothing more than a vase of flowers and a cup of tea on it.

I have been busy this week, I've made three velvet roses, and finished off the Valentine card for my little girl to give to Daddy, but I don't have much to show you. I plan on digging out some photos of older projects going back as far as a couple of years to show here, but I haven't had time to do so yet. I gave myself a bit of a break, and used the sewing machine to make the Valentine card from my little girl. Normally I hand sew felt, so this was the first time I've ever used the machine on it. It worked quite well, I made a few mistakes because it's quite hard to control fiddly pieces of fabric - any type of fabric - under the whirring needle of a sewing machine, but it's not too bad. Obviously the machine doesn't do beadwork, so that was done by hand. It's a big fairy cake topped with a heart and has hearts and 'for my daddy' handsewn on the right.

I'll finish with a rather lovely photo of Dudley the cat, who still tries to wreck my recently reupholstered dining room chairs. I keep the dining room door shut when we're not using it so he can't get to the chairs, but the second the door is open he tries to sneak in. Don't be fooled by the angelic face on him!
