sewing without thinking

I'm a big tapestry lover. I just love to get a new tapestry to start working on, I love it when I'm at the 'half way' stage, and I can see real progress. And I really enjoy it when I've almost finished and the whole fabric has gone from being a stiff white fabric, to something soft and malleable, and I know that the reason for the change is down to the hours I've spent huddled over it. What I really love though is how you can sew almost without thinking. Select a colour to work on, then sit and sew, letting your mind wander to other things, and scarcely thinking about what you are actually doing. The pattern is marked out for you, and it's a paint by numbers way of sewing. However, it still takes a lot of time and patience, so you really do feel as if you've accomplished something pretty wonderful by the time you finish. It always puts me in mind of being a Victorian lady, sitting and sewing on a rainy afternoon, a pot of hot tea by my side.
Usually I buy a new tapestry and conjure up such a romantic notion, or think that I'll spend many a happy Autumn evening by the fire. In truth I find it easier to sew in spring or summer, when the light is best.
Last year I finished a two tapestries. One that I'd received as my Valentine gift from Mr C, and another that had been hanging around for three years. There were personal reasons why I'd shut it away, but last year I decided to complete it. When finished, I turn my tapestries into cushions. Usually for the sofas in the living room, but this beautiful floral one is for the bedroom. I've had it since around August, but I have been in no hurry to work on it. Now it's time to get busy, I'd like this completed by the end of February. I buy all of my tapestry kits from [Ehrman Tapestry]
