..it'll be Christmas Day six months from now.
I know some of you will sigh and think 'oh shut your piehole, it's summer! Don't want to think about Christmas yet!'. Apologies for that. I'll insert a photo of a peony from my garden to make up for it.
I'm actually enjoying summer so far this year, I'm not wishing time away, just planning ahead as always.
When the days are really hot and sunny, thinking about snow on the ground, and fairy lights in the garden gets me through them. Not that we've had that many hot and sunny days so far.
It's a good time to start making tentative plans, forming ideas in your head, jotting down notes, working out how to get lights to parts of the garden. That sort of thing. Nothing too definite, just ideas, things you want to make or do. I surf the net or look to Pinterest to get inspiration. Might feel far too early, but actually, it's rather nice to be able to make plans at your own pace, instead of leaving it so close to Christmas that you regret not starting earlier.
Here are a few of the ideas forming in my mind.
This is why I wanted an arbour. Our roses haven't grown massively since we put them in, but I'm confident by the end of the year they'll have reached the top. Hope so anyway, I am planning on copying this look completely.
Last year I went slightly bonkers with the garden lights. It was all the fault of the Debenhams advert. As soon as I saw all the lights flick on at the end, that was it. I wanted to try and recreate something along the same lines. This year, I'm planning a much simpler look.
I usually have lights draped over the roof above the front door, but this year I'm going to have lights around the door frame instead. I'll still have lights on the trees by the front door, that will never change. I shall have a wreath with lights on the door as normal, but I'm pondering something plainer, like the [heart wreath] I made earlier this year.
I shall wallop a few nails in the wall and try out the lights around the door frame fairly soon. Just to see how it looks and if we could live with them like that for an entire month.
This is my front door inspiration for Christmas 2013. Hmm. Looking at this, I'm thinking perhaps a door wreath without lights would work better this year.
Inside will be simple too. This picture is my inspiration, though I won't be taking mirrors off the walls to recreate the look! Draping fairy lights will suffice.
Simple decorations, simple food. Simple but pretty. That's my thinking.
Just thoughts at the moment. I do love to plan!
Over to you. Hate me for talking Christmas? Or are you thinking about it already too?
