At last! I woke up to the sound of rain thrashing on the window panes this morning. After what feels like months (but in real time has been about three weeks, maybe a touch more), rain is finally falling, and falling heavily.
It has been so muggy and unbearably hot here over the past few weeks that I have been craving rain the way some people crave ice cream. Some parts of the UK have had rain, but it stayed away from us, and we have been stuck in a heatwave with no raindrops in sight.
My poor roses have suffered. They bloom and fade almost immediately, other plants have wilted beyond repair, and I have lost some veggies too. It's not through lack of trying, I've been watering each day, but it hasn't been enough.
I still have the bunting out, and I am enjoying seeing it drenched by good old British Summer Rain :O)
It's so nice to see the paths, pavements and grass getting soaked.
It's not all bad though. I've already started picking tomatoes from the garden, which I normally can't do until August, and my blueberries are ripening up nicely.
The potatoes are doing really well too. Here they are (on the left), beside the Blueberries, which are also in pots.
As it's so much cooler, Gorgeous Girl and I will be baking Blueberry Muffins this afternoon, thanks to Betty Crocker though, as ours need a bit longer before we can cook with them! After doing some baking, I will relax and take some time to read a couple of magazines, and let my thoughts turn to Autumn and the colder months. Really don't care much for this summertime lark!
The husband has a couple of weeks off work now. At this moment in time he is painting the living room. I will keep you posted with progress!
