For the most part, my husband and I agree on practically everything. We're planning on painting the dining room at some point, and after the success of the bedroom wallpaper, thought we'd have one wall wallpapered in the dining room too. I wanted the wallpaper above, and brought back a sample so we could see how it looked. The husband hated it. Well, it's his home too, so we have found a more subtle paper to use, but I wanted to see this paper somewhere. I'm British, so I'm always sticking the kettle on for a brew during the day. I use the cupboard where we stash the tea and mugs *a lot*! A few weeks ago I had the bright idea of using the wallpaper inside the cupboard. so I did!
It's not perfect, but it makes me smile every time I open the door. Even the husband likes it. I may not have a massive wall decorated in it, but at least I got to use the wallpaper somewhere in the house, plus it was a good way of using up the sample piece too. It cheers up an otherwise dull but practical cupboard. It's feeling very autumnal here nowadays. The sky is usually streaked in shades of grey and pale blue and sprinkled with cloud, there is a definite chill in the air, along with the scent of autumn. I adore this time of year. I don't bother to decorate for Halloween ~ well, other than these tiny pumpkin candles ...
, but I do like to decorate around the house and in the garden for autumn. These photos are of the front door and the bench in the front garden.
I buy fresh flowers for the living room windowsill every Saturday. Rather than arranging the roses in a vase, I decided to put them in a terracotta pot as it seemed more 'autumnal'. If you do this, remember to use a jam jar inside the pot first.
At long last the supermarket had some teeny tiny pumpkins in. I love the name - munchkin pumpkin! I've been looking for them for ages, but they seem to be in store late this year. I wanted them so I could cover them with glue and glitter in the manner of Martha. And now I move on to Christmas. Again. I'm so delighted, my felt advent calendar has been featured [Home Advent Calendars], a really lovely site that as the name suggests, features the work of people who have made their own advent calendars. It's well worth taking a look around. There are some very talented people out there, it's very inspirational and shows some wonderful ideas.
We've acquired an extra door this year, it's a side door to our garage. As we get a good view of the door from the house, I want to decorate it prettily. Which means I need to make a new wreath. I've already updated the wreath for the front door, and will keep it for the front door - I briefly considered using it on the garage door because I like it so much. The new wreath will be along similar lines to [the vintage style wreath that I made back in April].
To give me a dash of extra inspiration, I bought this magazine today. Ok, I'd have bought it any way, but it does have ideas for wreaths in it!
Now I just have to plod through this lot ......
There's a wreath just bursting to emerge from the pile of silk flowers and foliage. I'll take photos when it's finished. I always buy my flowers from [Dunelm-Mill]. They have such a good selection, and both quality and price are brilliant. Talking of Dunelm, they are getting their Christmas goodies out, I couldn't resist these chandelier style decorations. I think I might have them hanging from the centre light in the kitchen.
Apologies for naff photo, I couldn't be bothered to remove the packaging first! They have the gorgeous little Father Christmas decorations in again. I bought them just after Christmas last year, when they reduced to half price. I didn't want the bright red, so I covered them in pale glitter to give a vintage look. I considered buying more today, but think I'll leave it and see if I can get them at half price again. Sometimes it pays to wait!
Last photo now. I mentioned recently how I often buy things just for the packaging. It's been proven again. I love this make of soup anyway, but when I saw this 'witches brew' I just couldn't resist! You can see that I've already glittered one of the munchkin pumpkins!
