I used to have a pair of black frou frou indoor slippers that I loved. They had a high(ish) heel, were made from a velvet fabric and across the front of each was a froth of maribou feather. Very 'Agent Provocateur' (but not from there as they cost a fortune).I loved them and wore them all the time, but when they weren't on my tootsies, my dear cat Dudley used to swipe them and attack the feathers. In the end I had to throw them out because he ripped them to shreds. Since then I've bought lots of indoor slippers in different styles, and while I love the comfy cosy ones, I always ruin them by being too lazy to change them when I need to nip outside for something. I longed for my glam slippers, not only did they look fab but they were fine if I needed to pop the garage or out in the garden for a minute.
I had a sudden brainwave over the weekend, and remembered some black kitten heel shoes that I had stashed away. I must have had them for 10 years now, but have rarely worn them.
This idea was simple and quick, because there was only one tiny bit of sewing, but if you don't sew, you could skip that part.Using fabric glue, I glued a piece of ribbon threaded black lace across the front of the shoe. Then I cut a small strip of thick black lace and made a small rosette with it, holding together in the centre with a few quick stiches. I glued it in the middle of the shoe. To finish off, I glued three black ribbon roses in the very centre of the rosette and left to dry. Surprisingly enough, I did the same thing with the other shoe!!
And because it's hard to see the all black detail, a close up piccie..
I have a maribou feather boa that I considered cutting up to glue on the front, but then I thought about The Cat and how he ruined my old feather slippers. This black lace alternative should not interest him at all! This isn't everyone's cup of tea I know, but I thought I'd show you this little makeover. It proves that you can give old and unused items a new lease of life for very little cost and just a little bit of imagination. How much did this makeover cost me to do? Nothing - not a penny! I already had the lace and the ribbon roses, luckily for me I am addicted to buying ribbon, lace and ribbon roses and have a goodly stash. New indoor slippers for nothing. Fabulous!
