faded colours

The sun has been shining, and it put me in the mood to sew.

I had the urge to make another Union Jack cushion. Practice makes perfect and all that. Well, one day I might end up with a perfect looking cushion, not just yet. I love thinking of new ways to make my cushions, playing around with the colours and finding ways to make it look feminine. Today I decided to use some more of the wedding invitation ribbon that I've mentioned before, and the diamante buckle that I used as a bookmark. I've decided I prefer the smaller buckles to use as bookmarks, so reused the buckle here. I am always changing my mind about such things, but it's fun to rework and reuse. I have spare 'diamonds' so could easily replace the missing stone, but I like it missing. It gives a genuine vintage air to something that most certainly is not.

It's a lot larger than any of my previous cushions, measuring approximately 48 x 28 cms. As always it was dictated by the size of fabric remnants, and as usual I didn't bother to measure as I worked, I just do it by eye and hope for the best. It's possibly my favourite to date, because I love the muted colours, excessive use of lace and the hint of sparkle at the centre. It's very girly.

I'm very much hoping that a haberdashery order I placed this week will be delivered tomorrow. I want to work on more velvet roses, making them slightly differently. When I find 'my' thing to make, I like to work, work, work on it until I am totally happy with it. Sometimes it can take years, but I get there in the end. I'll share photos of new roses when I've made them.

Enjoy your weekend.
