Finally, FINALLY, I have got around to making myself some semi decent bookmarks. Usually I use a scrap or paper, or a piece of ribbon if I happen to find it when I need something to use. I mentioned that recently I'd seen some of the most beautiful bookmarks ever on a crafty blog. I couldn't remember where I'd seen them, but I do know they were made out of ribbon of some kind, and had pearly~diamante~broochy~embellishment things on them. They were absolutely gorgeous, and set my mind spinning. I just wanted something quick and simple to make, using things I already had in my sewing boxes and jars, but along similar lines to the ones I'd seen. What is so nice about the internet is finding an idea you like, being inspired and using and adapting it to suit yourself.
I'm not one to get overly excited by bookmarks really, but these were so gorgeous that I couldn't help it. If I ever find the site again, I will share it.
So, I took some ribbon, and some diamante buckles that I had kicking around. With the tiny buckles I used ribbon slightly 'too thick', so the buckle would stay where I wanted it to. (It could be secured by a dab of glue, or a couple of stitches, but I like the idea of being able to move it if I choose to)
For the large buckle I found I didn't have any ribbon thick enough. Instead, I used two pieces of gold ribbon, and knotted around the centre bar. I must just share with you, the gold ribbon is another wedding leftover. I ordered too many wedding invites at the time, but kept the ones that weren't used. They had gold ribbon tied around them. I've kept a few of my invites intact, but I have been removing and using the gold ribbon over the past 4 years. I love that so many things have this precious memory, and it's another example of recycling and reusing.
So, a not very exciting photo of my bookmarks, but it shows perfectly how incredibly simple they are.
