Reworking an old favourite.

My main crafty makes are rose brooches, roses are my favourite flower and influence me a lot. I chose the name of this diary purely because I wanted to have 'rose' in the title somewhere. My roses are usually made from felt, but any kind of fabric is fair game. I use them to decorate hats, jackets, cardigans and bags, or just have them positioned around the house as decoration! Felt is one of my favourite fabrics to use, so I tend make them mainly from that. I first made felt roses in the summer of 2007, I can't remember why, I just had the idea and made one, then another, then another! Last year I reworked the idea slightly. It's nice to be able to look back and see how this idea evolves.

The purple rose in the photo below is the reworked version from last year. I have a jar full of this style of brooch! It's pictured amongst the bits and pieces I use to put together each brooch. The fabric rectangle is a fabric sample that I had kicking around. Today I had another flash of inspiration when looking at the fabric sample. Why not make another version of my rose brooch? So that's what I did. I pulled away at the fibres of the fabric to give a raggedy, slightly vintage looking edge to some of the petals. I rather like this latest version, and have lots of ideas bubbling away. I need to track down a certain type of fabric online, so I can make more. My ultimate plan is to try and sell these online. I won't do that until I am 100% happy with how they look. I'm getting there, but I'm not quite there yet. I'll keep you posted!
